The China Beat

I recently wrote a post for ChinaBeat, entitled “From Monkey King to Mao: Cultivating Games with Chinese Characteristics.”  In this post I explore the efforts of the Chinese government to promote games with Chinese cultural content, from games based upon classic Chinese novels such as “Journey to the West” to “Red Net Games” that boast content based upon events related to the history of the Chinese Communist Party.  If you are interested in reading more, find my post here.

In case you haven’t heard of it, The China Beat is a great blog that “provides context and criticism on contemporary China from China scholars and journalists.” It is based out of the University of California, Irvine, and run by co-founders Kenneth Pomeranz and Jeffrey Wasserstrom.
